Sjusjøen – vacation in beautiful surroundings
Spend your holiday in beautiful nature – both summer and winter.
With its 850 metres above the sea, Sjusjøen is situated in the Norwegian mountains, which gives an incredible view and ensures snow at wintertime. Sjusjøen is only 20 km from Lillehammer, a Norwegian town with approximately 25,000 citizens, so you have the opportunity of combining your vacation in the mountains with city life. Furthermore, Sjusjøen has a super market, a sports shop, cafes and a skiing centre. For winter guests who are going cross-country skiing, the tracks are just outside the window, and for guests interested in slalom, Sjusjøen ski center is only 4 km away. The large ski center in Hafjell is only 45 km away.
History
Sjusjøen’s history starts in the 15th century where the first mountain pastures began to develop. Tourism became serious in the late 17th century where skilled milk maids constituted a basis for tourism by serving food which reflected the environment and offering a few beds for rental.
The traditional village in the mountains has gradually developed to a modern holiday resort, and today Sjusjøen is one of the most popular ski areas in Norway.
